Dr. Sketchy’s Sunday School with Headmistress Maria Teicher
Maria Teicher is a fine art portrait and figurative artist residing in Philadelphia, PA. She uses historical and personal symbolism to blend together contemporary concepts and an honest connection with those around her.
Maria received her BFA from Rowan University and her MFA from the New York Academy of Art. She is a regularly exhibiting fine artist, educator, and the co-director of this community-based website. We are pleased to announce her education collaboration with Dr. Sketchy’s Philly and Arch Enemy Arts. The class will focus on how to draw from life with basic anatomy instruction and techniques. A bonus morning class will focus on how to achieve successful reference material with photography. This is helpful for those who do not have consistent access to a live model in their everyday studio practice.

11-12:30pm “Lighting Your Subject”
If you’re a contemporary portrait or figurative artist without a constant live model, a good photo reference is essential. Learning a few simple techniques to catch a plethora of information in your reference material can make a world of difference in your art practice.
During this class you’ll learn about key camera functions, equipment to avoid, how to properly light your subject, and the best editing practices once your reference is out of camera.
A Q&A will take place shortly after.
12:30-1:30pm Lunch Break
2-6pm “Sunday School”
With models: Songbird Shannon McGill and America’s Next Top Model Cycle 20 finalist Cory Wade Hindoroff. This class will be a live drawing session with short demonstrations and continued individual instruction by artist Maria Teicher on basic anatomy and tonal structure. One long pose is planned for the entire class. Maria will help guide each artist towards a realistic representation of the live model; starting from basic head shapes and working towards more detail. A Q&A is to follow.
***Tickets are $40 for the entire day, although it is not required to attend both session if interest only lies in one area.
